Western coast – around Boka Bay, where activities are oriented more towards fisheries.

In this part we have municipalities of Budva, Tivat, Kotor and Herceg Novi.

Budva is situated on the open seas, and it started as a fishermen settlement, so the tradition of catching and preparing fish in this part is long.

Boka Bay offers a spectacular landscape – the steep mountains rising straight from the sea to the altitude of almost 2000m. With such a setting, there never was too much arable land in this part, so the population has been mostly oriented towards the sea. Fisheries and naval activities are what local people mostly do here. However, olives are also grown here, together with citrus fruits and vegetables. So the local cuisine has a typical Mediterranean feel. In the recent years, local families started establishing aquatic farms for growing mussels, cockles and oysters, which made their way into local restaurants’ menus and are highly prized.
