Tambura is a string instrument used in folk music in parts of Europe, North of Montenegro. Pljevlja, in particular, are well known for tambura ensembles, and this festival is organized to celebrate tambura music. For eight days of the festival, there are more than 200 tambura performers from all over Europe, playing traditional as well as newly composed songs. Apart from this, the festival encompasses workshops for tambura, mandolin and guitar playing, and singing competitions.
